Build My Life
Updated: Dec 10, 2024
I have been loving a praise song here lately. Actually ever since I heard the song it has resonated with me. This is because it demonstrates who God is and how I desire to relate to him. Sometimes songs just say the things that you most desire to express. And this song does that. It is “Build My Life.” Check out the song here.
The bridge is the point in the song that touches me so much and causes my heart to tremble. The lyrics read.
“I will build my life upon your love, it is a firm foundation. I will put my trust in you alone and I will not be shaken.”
These lyrics testify to the unchangeable faithfulness of God. It speaks of the wonderful love that he has. And then it speaks to how I want to react to these truths about him. So let's talk about his love and faithfulness.
God’s love for us is huge. He has such a great love for his people. His great demonstration of this love is his death on the cross. He gave himself to us willingly so that we can have a relationship with him. This was done while we were actually enemies. We were rebels who desired no part of him. While we sought to take what's rightfully his (rule and authority) he gave away what was rightfully his (his life). This love was proven with a demonstration. He didn’t just talk about it, he was about it. How often do we hear people end phone calls, end visits with each other, after they have offended someone, or when they want something, say I love you, but they never really demonstrate that love? They don’t actually seem like they really care because their actions do not align with their speech. This is absolutely not the case with Jesus. Because he did not consider it a robbery to be stripped of his glory, and he did not grasp hold of his honor, but he humbled himself to live a common life and suffer a horrible death for our sake. We can see his love in those actions. And that love, I want my life to be based on.
God is faithful. This love that he demonstrated in giving his life for us is something I can trust. It's something you can trust. It is a firm foundation. In this sacrifice that he demonstrated for us we can be assured that he will do in the same way everything to benefit us. If he gave himself, why would he hold back any other good thing? This is something he has declared to us. He has stated that he would make a way in which we can be reconciled to himself and he has done it. Again his actions have aligned with his words. What he says he will do, he will do it. This is what causes me not to be shaken in the midst of all of life’s living. If he says that the plans for my life are good, I believe it. I believe it because I believe he loves me lavishly and from that love comes a desire for my benefit. Therefore I trust whatever is happening I can stand in peace because the one who loves me will be faithful to his promise to me, to be good. I will not be shaken.
Do you have this kind of firm foundation in Jesus? I pray that you would learn to trust him deeply if you do not. If you don’t even know Jesus I pray that you would learn of him. And if you do know him and trust him, I pray that you would continue to trust him more fully in every aspect of your life. He has proven he is worthy!
He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Romans 8:32
Who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant] being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Philippians 2:6-8
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
