Election, Our Throne, and the True King

The election just took place and we have a new president.  This is going to make somebody mad.  It’s because you are either on one side or the other.  But whoever you chose as president of this country whether they won or lost is ultimately in the control of Jesus. God is the sovereign ruler of all the world and is the only man God has elevated as judge and ruler over the world.

Throughout time there have been many who have wanted to ascend the throne and all have been humbled by Yahweh Almighty.  There has been a vacant spot that men have sought to place themselves on.  We ourselves do it.  We want to be the lords of our affairs.  We want to be the masters of our domain.  We want to have the glory for ourselves.  But there is one for whom all the glory is reserved.

In the gospel according to John Jesus speaks about glory many times.  He says that whoever seeks his own glory in the end will not see life.  This life he is talking about is a relationship with the Father.  It is only by seeking the glory of the Son and ultimately the Father through him that we might have life.

In Psalm 110 David talks about a king that he calls Lord.  David is the standard by which all other Israelite kings are graded.  David would never have been caught calling another king lord. Yet he recognized someone who is greater than him. This King who is greater than him is the messiah, Jesus.  And this one who is called Jesus was not only elevated by David, but was elevated by God the Father.

I say all these things because if Jesus is elevated to the status of master, judge, and king of all of creation, then it is not our place. And it is only fitting that we bow in homage to the true king. But I have to say one more thing.  This king who we bow in reverence to is a king who cares.  One of the reasons he is deserving of the glory the Father bestows on him is for his great love for all humanity.  This king who is exalted above all humbled himself before all. He stepped in front and bore the ramifications of our rebellious desire to ascend the throne ourselves.  He carried the sin and transgressions of us all as he died a horrible death on a cross.  This is one of the reasons why we can trust him to seek our  benefit as the humble high king of everything.

So today remember that God is sovereign over everything.  He is in control. And let this be a reminder that he is trust worthy and that we should allow him to have free reign in our lives.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,  that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11
